Heavily pregnant woman among 13 caught for drug abuse in Miri

MIRI, April 24: A 30-something woman who is eight months into her pregnancy was among 13 people detained during drug raids in six villages in Bekenu that ended in the wee hours today.

National Anti-Drug Agency (Nada) launched the seven-hour operation at 9pm, and all the suspects, two of them women, tested positive for syabu (methamphetamine).


The suspects were picked up from Kampung Kuala Sibuti, Kampung Padang Kelulit, Kampung Tunah Tiris, Kampung Masjid Tiris, Kampung Bulau and Kampung Keluru Tengah.

Miri Nada chief Mazlan Jikran, who led the raids, said those arrested were aged from 20 to 70. and they were all being detained under Section 3(1) of the Drug Dependants (Treatment and Rehabilitation) Act 1983.

“We also arrested three siblings during the operation,” said Mazlan.

In all, they inspected 21 people during the operation but only 13 were collared for drug abuse. — DayakDaily
