3 jobless men claim trial to drug possession charge

KUCHING, April 24: Three unemployed men today pleaded not guilty to a charge of possessing methamphetamine at an unnumbered house in Seringgok Road, Bau, sometime last month.

Sessions Court judge Dayang Ellyn Narisa Abang Ahmad then fixed May 9 for further mention.


Boon Yean Shung, 29, Yong Joon Kong, 28, and Lai Muk Loi, 33, were alleged to be in possession of drugs at 2.19am on March 11 this year.

They were charged under Section 12(2) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, punishable under Section 39A(2) to be read together with Section 34 of the Penal Code, which carries imprisonment for life or not less than five years and shall be punished with whipping not less than 10 strokes if convicted.

DPP Ruthra Raj prosecuted, while Boon and Lai were represented by counsel Francis Teron Kadap. Yong was not represented. — DayakDaily
