Heatwave Alert Level 1 for Sibu, Marudi with temps up to 37°C over 3 days

KUCHING, July 24: Sibu and Marudi have been placed under Heatwave Alert Level 1 (Caution) as both areas have recorded daily maximum temperatures between 35°C and 37°C for at least three consecutive days, according to the Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia).

In an update issued at 4pm today, MetMalaysia stated that the alert level indicates the need for vigilance, although it does not yet constitute a heatwave emergency.

The daily heat status map for Sarawak, released on July 24, 2025, shows the two districts marked in yellow, indicating Alert Level 1, while the rest of the state remains in blue, with maximum daily temperatures recorded below 35°C.

The public is advised to stay informed through the latest updates via MetMalaysia’s official website at https://www.met.gov.my/iklim/status-cuaca-panas and take necessary precautions during prolonged periods of high temperatures.

MetMalaysia classifies the heatwave conditions into three categories. Level 1 (Caution) refers to daily maximum temperatures between 35°C and 37°C for at least three consecutive days. Level 2 (Heatwave) involves temperatures between 37°C and 40°C for three consecutive days. Level 3 (Extreme Heatwave) is when daily maximum temperatures exceed 40°C for at least three consecutive days.
