Healthcare worker among five new Covid-19 positive cases in Sarawak

KUCHING, May 3: A healthcare worker is among five new Covid-19 positive cases reported in Sarawak today.

According to the State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC), the healthcare personnel was infected from the Kuching conference cluster, which raised the number of cases linked to the cluster to 58.

Of the 58 cases, 22 patients were directly infected from the Kuching cluster, while 36 others from smaller clusters.


“As for the five positive cases today, one was linked to the Sri Petaling tabligh gathering cluster, one from a smaller cluster and two were new cases under investigation aside from the earlier one linked to the Kuching conference cluster,” the statement said.

Of the five new cases, three were from Kota Samarahan and one each from Kuching and Sibu.

The committee added that Kuching has 131 active cases, while Kota Samarahan has 47 active cases. Both locations are classified as red zones.

The statement added that Sarawak recorded 73 cases of persons under investigation (PUI) today, while a total of 182 PUI cases are awaiting laboratory results.

On a positive note, the committee said 11 patients from the Sarawak General Hospital (SGH) have recovered and discharged.

It added that another 578 Sarawakians have returned to the state and placed in designated hotels across the state as persons under surveillance (PUS). — DayakDaily
