KUCHING, April 1: The Ministry of Health (MOH) will provide ready-to-install fabricated flood barrier equipment costing RM300,000 to prevent flooding on the ground floor of the Sarawak General Hospital (SGH).

Its deputy minister, Lukanisman Awang Sauni, said that MOH is seeking funds to buy the equipment.

Lukanisman, who is MP for Sibuti, said this during a press conference on his first working visit to SGH today to look into issues and problems encountered by SGH staff.

Meanwhile, Lukanisman said he would not just look at SGH’s infrastructure and current issues but also at Sarawak’s medical services, and one of the issues is the mobility of medical specialists.

“These specialists’ services are needed in other areas in Sarawak. To go to these towns in Sarawak, we need to go either by road or air.

“This is a costly operation, unlike in Peninsular Malaysia, whereby the medical specialist only needs to travel a short distance by road,” he said. — DayakDaily
