SIBU, July 21: The shortage of specialists, including ophthalmologists (eye care specialists), at Sibu Hospital is being looked into by the Health Ministry.
Deputy Minister of Health Lukanisman Awang Sauni said this following a briefing by Sibu Hospital director Dr Nanthakumar Thirunavukkarasu on the challenges faced by the hospital yesterday (July 20).
Speaking to reporters later, he said he had assessed the hospital’s effectiveness in handling emergencies, especially in the yellow and red zones.
“The hospital bed management system that they implement could be replicated in other hospitals,” he said.
On the request to establish new clinics and upgrade existing ones in the area to meet the growing demand and population, he said the ministry is committed to it.
“To proceed with this proposal, I have urged the Division Health Officer to collaborate with the Department of Land and Survey and the Sarawak government to identify suitable land sites,” he said.
The Sibuti MP was also impressed by Sibu’s ‘medan hospital’ in managing the Covid-19 pandemic, as it has also been adopted in the Miri and Kuching divisions. — DayakDaily
