“The patient is a local male who began showing symptoms of fever, sore throat, and cough on Sept 11. The rash appeared on Sept 12.

“The patient had not travelled abroad in the 21 days prior to the onset of symptoms,” he said in a statement today.

The patient had been isolated and was in stable condition.

Furthermore, all contacts of the patient have been traced, and their health status will be monitored according to the stringent current standard operating procedures (SOPs).

Dr Muhammad Radzi highlighted that MOH has activated the Mpox Operations Room at the National Crisis Preparedness and Response Centre (CPRC) on Aug 16, 2024, following the World Health Organisation’s (WHO) declaration of Mpox as a public health emergency of international concern.

“CPRC is continuously monitoring the mpox situation and coordinating the necessary preparedness and response measures,” he added.

With this confirmed case, the Ministry of Health has recorded 10 Mpox cases in the country since July 26, 2023, all of which are the clade 2 variant. — DayakDaily
