KUCHING, Nov 2:  One negative Covid-19 test does not mean a person is free from the pandemic as it takes two tests to ascertain that health status.

This is the reminder of State Health Director Dr Chin Zin Hing who advised those undergoing Covid-19 test in private facilities to go for a second test on the 10th day after the first one, before being completely cleared of the disease.

“Those going for a test, especially at private facilities and private hospitals, if one test result is negative, it doesn’t mean he is free from Covid-19.

“He needs to do a second test on the 10th day.  If both tests are negative, only then we know he is free from Covid-19.

“Within that period of time (between the two tests), he should follow all SOPs (standard operating procedures),” said Dr Chin at Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) press conference today.

Dr Chin said while a person is waiting for the second test, he or she must “stay at home” and avoid mixing with others.

This is because after the first test, if the person continues to mix with others, he or she may still be infected.  He or she may also infect others as the virus at this period is still under incubation period and is undetectable by the test. — DayakDaily
