Health DG: 170 new Covid-19 cases, five more fatalities

KUCHING, April 14: Malaysia has recorded a total of 170 new Covid-19 positive cases today.

Ministry of Health director-general Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said this brings the total number of confirmed cases to 4,987.

The country also reported five new deaths, bringing the total death toll to 82.


The fatality rate is now at 1.64 per cent.

“One of the death cases was an unidentified foreign man who was found dead on April 6 in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah. Samples taken from him during post mortem confirmed that he was Covid-19 positive. However, there was no identification found on the man and the case is now under police investigation,” Dr Noor Hisham said during the ministry’s daily Covid-19 briefing in Putrajaya today.

Meanwhile, he added that the number of recovered and discharged patients today is 202, leading to a total of 2,478 patients (49.69 per cent) recovered from Covid-19.

Currently, there are 60 patients being treated in Intensive Care Units (ICUs), with 33 of them requiring ventilators. — DayakDaily
