Hawkers, petty traders to receive one-off special grants of RM1,000 under BKSS 8.0

KUCHING, Oct 12: A total of 87,500 hawkers and petty traders in Sarawak will receive a one-off special grant of RM1,000 courtesy of the Sarawak government next year.

Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg said the Sarawak government has decided to roll out the eighth package of the Bantuan Khas Sarawakku Sayang (BKSS) 8.0 worth RM285.47 million.

During the announcement of Sarawak Budget 2022 today, Abang Johari in a statement said BKSS 8.0 will contain initiatives and one-off financial assistances for the first six months of 2022.


One of the initiatives under BKSS 8.0 is to assist petty traders and hawkers who were impacted by Covid-19.

He said it has been the top priority of the State government to protect people’s health and revive Sarawak’s economy amidst the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic.

In response to the pandemic, Abang Johari, who is also Finance and Economic Planning Minister said the State government has stepped forward with direct and indirect financial support through BKSS 1.0 to BKSS 7.0 in 2020 and 2021, worth RM5.3 billion.

He noted the seventh package of BKSS involved more than 30 measures that have been implemented. — DayakDaily
