KUCHING, Feb 27:  Has Julau MP Larry Sng stepped down from the post of Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) Sarawak chairman?

According to a Sarawak PKR party leader, it has been true that Sng has resigned from PKR Sarawak chairmanship and a meeting was held today to discuss on his resignation.

Among the reasons of his resignation that were discussed in the meeting, the main one being that Sng preferred to contest as an independent in the upcoming general polls which are expected to be called anytime once the federal government believes it can put Covid-19 under control with the availability of vaccines.

DayakDaily tried to contact Sng but to no avail.  WhatsApp message is also left unanswered while calls placed through mobile telephone were unattended.

The resurface of the rumours of Sng’s resignation is sparked by a very strange press statement which was issued by PKR Sarawak general secretary Joshua Jabeng entitling “MPN (Sarawak State Leadership council) Leadership” which was posted on Media Info of PKR Sarawak chat group at 9.09pm tonight.

The content of the press statement is as below:

We know many are sad to hear about the recent turn of events in Sarawak Keadilan leadership.  However, let us remain calm.  The president is listening and (has) is already in favour (of) our proposal for a collective leadership to lead MPN into PRN (Sarawak Election) and PRU (General Election).

In any organisation, it is very normal for leaders to come and go.  Keadilan is bigger then just one or two men or women and the departure of a leaders will not divert the party’s direction or objectives nor will it break our spirit.  In fact, we wish to acknowledge the many contributions of many good men and women in Sarawak who have helped made Keadilan a party of the people.  Nonetheless, for those who have left we wish them well.

Our first and foremost duty as leaders, members and activists of Parti Keadilan is to serve the people and fight for justice for a better future for all.  Keadilan was birthed 21 years ago from struggle for truth, justice and democracy.  With that, we will continue to grow to champion the cause of justice for the rakyat.  Parti Keadilan must unite to present a clear message of reform fully confident that this is what the majority of people want.

Our focus right now is on the real work at hand, which is to help the Rakyat in the midst of the turmoil and suffering caused by the Covid-19 pandemic and the incomplete and corruption of the PN(Perikatan Nasional and GPS (Gabungan Parti Sarawak) government.

Blatant abuses by the ruling power must end. Truth and justice will eventually prevail.  We have many good men and women who are standing shoulder to shoulder with us to stand at the right side of history.  We are committed to bring a new dawn of hope and true reform to Sarawak and Malaysia.

To all MPN state leaders, members and supporters, we would like to thank you for your loyalty and deep commitment towards the cause of Keadilan for all.

In mid February, there was already rumours claiming that Sng has resigned from his PKR Sarawak chairman post.

On Feb 15, DayakDaily directed a question to Sng through WhatsApp asking whether he had resigned from the party.

Sng replied the question with a simple “no”. — DayakDaily
