“In Dec 2025, Minister for Youth, Sports and Entrepreneur Development Sarawak Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah mentioned that the Malaysian government has agreed to host the opening ceremony of the SEA Games 2027 in Kuching, with the Sarawak Stadium as the chosen venue.

“The Sarawak Stadium will undergo a major facelift from Feb 2026 and is expected to complete by June 2027, ahead of the opening ceremony for SEA Games 2027 which is scheduled to take place in Sept 2027.

“The Sarawak Cabinet has also approved budgets to host the SEA Games 2027 and to upgrade the Sarawak Stadium’s facilities,” the statement said.

Commenting on the award, Hartanah Kenyalang managing director Seah Boon Tiat said the project was a major milestone for the company and reflected confidence in its technical capabilities.

“We are glad that the Public Works Department has given us an opportunity to participate in the repair and upgrade works of the Sarawak Stadium located at Petra Jaya, Kuching,” he said, adding that the upgraded stadium would be equipped with modern facilities essential for hosting the SEA Games and positioning Kuching as a preferred venue for future regional sporting events.

Seah added that the contract award demonstrated the group’s ability to deliver a wide range of projects, from commercial developments and dilapidated schools to major institutional buildings, including the Sarawak Stadium itself.

Hartanah Kenyalang is a building and infrastructure construction company listed on the ACE Market of Bursa Malaysia. Its portfolio includes institutional buildings such as schools and public facilities, as well as infrastructure projects involving bridges and roads across Sarawak and Sabah. — DayakDaily
