KUCHING, March 21: Deputy Minister of Transport Datuk Dr Jerip Susil today launched a guide book for the village chiefs in Mambong constituency.

The book, believed to be the first of its kind in the region, is the brainchild of Sarawak Administrative Officer (SAO) of Padawan sub-district office Julius Scott Sapong to enable village chiefs to carry out their duties based on the guidelines.

“We see that the role of grassroot leaders like village chiefs as very important to enable the people to enjoy the fruits of development carried out by our political leaders like Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg, so the book comes at the right time,” Dr Jerip said at the launching.

At the same event, Dr Jerip also launched a ‘Kampung Sejahtera’ competition for the villages in the constituency.

According to him, the competition will be a way to allow the villages to keep its surrounding clean.

“Because the villages in the constituency (Mambong) are under the Greater Kuching Coordinated Development Agency (GKCKA) and will most likely attract tourists, we want the villages to be clean,” he pointed out.

At the event, Dr Jerip also presented certificates to more than 40 village chiefs and community leaders, whose terms were extended.

Present at the function were Deputy Resident Dr Cheong Liang, Kuching District officer Sofhi Jebal, acting Serian District officer Ranum Bari Sarawak Administrative Officer from Padawan sub-district Julius Scott Sapong. — DayakDaily
