KUCHING, Feb 29: Uruguay’s Ambassador and Group of Latin American and the Caribbean (GRULAC) representative, HE Valeria Csukasi has put forward a proposal to organise a Latin American Festival in Kuching later this year.

According to a Sarawak Public Communications Unit (Ukas) report, Csukasi met with Premier of Sarawak Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg to discuss organising the festival organisation during a courtesy visit on the latter at Wisma Bapa Malaysia today.

Csukasi noted Abang Johari’s endorsement, emphasising the potential of the festival to enhance Sarawak’s economy and draw foreign investments.

Abang Johari had generously extended the offer to hoste the festival which will aim to showcase Latin American culture, in addition to fostering economic developments, providing business opportunities as well as establishing a lasting recognition of the Latin American heritage in Sarawak.

Kuching was an appropriate choice of host, Csukasi added, given the city’s vibrant connection between arts and cultural activities.

She made remarks to reporters after the courtesy visit today.

Among those present at the meeting were Sarawak Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan, Sarawak State Secretary, Datuk Amar Mohamad Abu Bakar Marzuki, and Cuban Ambassador to Malaysia, Florentino Batista González. — DayakDaily
