KUCHING, Aug 25: A grocery shop owner claimed trial to sexually assaulting a 4-year-old girl at his own shop.
The 62-year-old man from Kampung Asum, pleaded not guilty to the charge framed.
Sessions Court Judge Dayang Ellyn Narisa Abang Ahmad fixed October 6 for pre-trial case management.
The accused has also been released on a cash bail of RM 8,000 with two local sureties.
He was charged under Section 14(a) of the Sexual Offences Against Children 2017 and punishable under Section 14 of the same Act, which carries a maximum imprisonment of 20 years and liable to whipping, upon conviction.
He is accused of touching a 4-year-old girl’s private parts at his grocery shop located in Kampung Asum, Padawan, at about 6 pm on August 10, 2020.
DPP Nurfadzlin Mahmad Zulhasnan prosecuted while the accused is represented by Counsel Roland Thomas.—DayakDaily
