MIRI, Nov 10: Sarawak government led by Gabungan Parti Sarawak(GPS) has never taking sides when it comes to the rakyat’s well-being and is committed to bringing prosperity to the people.

“We (GPS) don’t take sides when it comes to health and education (initiatives) which benefit the rakyat, regardless of which political party we are from,” said Telang Usan assemblyman Dennis Ngau at a free health screening programme under PeKa B40 on Sunday afternoon at a leading hotel here.

Despite PeKa B40 being an initiative by the Pakatan Harapan (PH) federal government, it was seen as a good effort to better the well-being of the rakyat especially those in rural areas, he pointed out.

He added, even though the PeKa B40 initiative was mooted by the PH federal government, Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) Telang Usan was facilitating the free health screening today.

“We are not taking sides; if we do, people will be deprived.

“Even though healthcare and education are under the purview of the federal government, both (federal and state governments) are equally responsible regardless of their political context.

“When I first decided to hold the programme in Miri for the Telang Usan contituency, all I could think about is my people. Regardless of which political party initiated the PeKa B40 programme, and despite that I’m from GPS (Gabungan Parti Sarawak), all I want is that it benefits the rakyat.”

On Sunday, nearly 200 rural residents from the Telang Usan contituency converged at a conference room at a hotel Miri here to take part in the programme.

Also present at the programme were Temengong Elizabeth Ding and PBB-GPS Telang Usan women’s wing chief Margaret Nawan. — DayakDaily
