KUCHING, Feb 25: Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) is throwing its full support behind Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad to continue as prime minister.

This statement came following speculations on GPS’ position in the new government following the collapse of Pakatan Harapan, the failed coup d’etat and Dr Mahathir’s subsequent resignation.

GPS secretary-general Datuk Alexander Nanta Linggi, in a media statement today, said that the coalition had conveyed its stand and support to the Yang di-Pertuan Agong and Dr Mahathir last Sunday (Feb 23).

“Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg, who is also GPS chairman, has officially indicated GPS’ support for Dr Mahathir to continue leading the country.

“The Chief Minister has also obtained a unanimous mandate from the GPS Supreme Council,” he added.

Alexander said that all GPS members of parliament (MPs) had given their support to Dr Mahathir to continue as the premier for the sake of the country.

GPS component parties comprise of Parti Pesaka Bumiputra Bersatu (PBB), Sarawak United Peoples Party (SUPP), Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS) and Progressive Democratic Party (PDP). —DayakDaily
