GPS to unveil Jepak by-election candidate tomorrow

KUCHING, Oct 17: Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) will announce its candidate for the Jepak by-election tomorrow (Oct 18).

According a report of Sarawak Public Communications Unit (Ukas), the announcement will be made at 4pm at a hotel in Bintulu tomorrow.

Meanwhile, Sarawak Premier and GPS Chairman Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg at a ceremony in Kuching today revealed that the GPS candidate for Jepak is a local man.


Earlier he informed that some names had been checked and filtered by the police and the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC).

He said GPS will field a clean and competent candidate to ensure a big victory.

The Election Commission (EC) has set Nov 4 for the Jepak by-election and Oct 21 as the nomination day for the candidate.

Early voting day is set for Oct 31 with a 14-day campaigning period.

The Jepak state seat was declared vacant when its incumbent for six terms since 1996, Datuk Talib Zulpilip, 72, passed away on Sept 15.

The deceased died at Normah Medical Center at 5.50pm due to health complications. — DayakDaily
