KUCHING, Oct 28: Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) will negotiate seat allocation among its component parties ahead of the upcoming Sarawak Election, with some Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) members indicating they are interested in stepping down.

GPS president Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg said this after chairing a special closed-door meeting with leaders of the coalition’s four component parties at PBB headquarters today.

“We formally announced that we are ready to face the election, although the date has not yet been set as it will be decided by the Election Commission (EC).

“One thing I can say is that GPS will contest all 82 seats across the State,” he told reporters.

Abang Johari said seat allocation among the GPS component parties had yet to be finalised, with further discussions needed to settle the details.

He also indicated that some PBB members were interested in stepping down, although he did not identify them.

“There are some, I believe from PBB, who are interested in stepping down. However, we will wait, as there is still time and the EC has yet to announce the election date,” he said.

He added that GPS would finalise its list of candidates before nomination day.

The meeting was attended by leaders of GPS’ four component parties, namely PBB, Sarawak United Peoples’ Party (SUPP), Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS) and Progressive Democratic Party (PDP). — DayakDaily
