KUCHING, Oct 28: A 35-year-old e-hailing driver is sentenced to jail for two years after admitting he molested a young woman he met through the ride-hailing platform.
Lim Soon Kien, who had no lawyer, pleaded guilty before Magistrate Ling Hui Chuan to outraging the modesty of the 19-year-old. The sentence runs from today onwards.
He was charged under Section 354 of the Penal Code, which provides for up to 10 years’ jail, a fine, whipping, or a combination of any two.
The court heard that the incident took place at about 6.40pm on Oct 23 in a car parked behind a college hostel at Pine Square, Jalan Batu Kawa.
The woman, who knew Lim from the e-hailing platform, had arranged to meet him that day.
Inside the vehicle, he kissed her on the cheek and forehead, among other acts. She repeatedly told him to stop, but he carried on until she managed to escape.
She lodged a police report, and Lim was arrested the next day. Investigators concluded that he had acted deliberately.
