MIRI, Nov 8: Gabungan Parti Sarawak-Sarawak United Peoples’ Party (GPS-SUPP) candidate for P219 Miri, Cr Jeffery Phang today unveiled the first part of his election manifesto which contains his plans for improving healthcare in the federal constituency, should he win the seat.

Phang disclosed this included looking into the establishment of a cancer and heart treatment centre to cater for the B40 group.

For the 15th General Election (GE15), Phang has a total of four manifesto points for Miri which he will be revealed in stages throughout the election campaigning period.

“We are looking into the possibility of establishing a hospital for heart and cancer treatment in Miri, so that those under the B40 group can have access to the facility and will not have to go to Kuching,” he told reporters during a press conference today at the SUPP Piasau office.

Citing the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic, he said patients infected with the disease can’t simply mix with regular patients in the hospital.

Earlier, Phang launched a video about a Miri resident who had lost her father to cancer.

The video narrated the family’s efforts to send her father for treatment outside Miri because such facility is not available here.

Also present were SUPP president Dato Sri Dr Sim Kui Hian, the party’s secretary-general Datuk Sebastian Ting, SUPP Senadin chairman Datuk Sri Lee Kim Shin and SUPP Pujut chairman-cum-Miri Mayor Adam Yii Siew Sang. — DayakDaily
