KUCHING, Nov 3: Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS) Women chief Dato Sri Doris Sophia Brodie has cleared the first hurdle of many hurdles upon receiving her ‘watikah’ (appointment letter) as the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) candidate for P202 Sri Aman in the 15th General Election (GE15) today.

She is one of 13 new faces from GPS in GE15 in Sarawak and hopes to wrestle back the seat for her party and GPS.

In GE14 in 2018, Sri Aman was won by the GPS-PRS candidate Dato Masir Kujat who later resigned from the party to join Parti Sarawak Bersatu (PSB) in 2019, but, after the 2021 State Election, he became an independent parliamentarian. He plans to defend the seat in GE15.

Doris said that after being officially appointed as GPS’s candidate, she is ready and will go all out to reach the voters in Sri Aman after nomination day on Nov 5.

“We have a 14-day campaign period before polling day, and my focus is to visit the grey areas of the constituency,” she told reporters after receiving her ‘watikah as an official candidate at Parti Pesaka Bumiputra Bersatu (PBB) headquarters here today.

“There are 19 polling districts in P202 Sri Aman, and I am going to visit each one to ensure I cover the whole area before polling day,” she added.

She revealed that there are more than 50,100 electoral voters registered in Sri Aman, and she wants them to exercise their right to vote come polling day on Nov 19.

“Don’t miss the chance to exercise your right and vote GPS as there are many development programmes that are good for the people that still need to be carried out, like Sri Aman Development Agency (SADA) development programmes,” she added.

Doris reiterated that there is no doubt that the GPS elected State representatives for the three State constituencies which make up the federal seat of Sri Aman, have done a great job in bringing development to the area, but it is not enough.

She pointed out that development has to keep up with Sri Aman’s growing population.

“Therefore, we need GPS representative in Parliament to ensure that the development in the area is complete. We hoped people in P202 Sri Aman will continue to vote for GPS in this GE15”, she said. — DayakDaily
