KAPIT, May 14: Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) secretary-general Alexander Nanta Linggi hopes that a Sarawakian will be appointed to succeed the late Datuk Mutang Tagal as Senate president.

In a news report by Free Malaysia Today (FMT) published yesterday (May 13), Nanta elaborated that Tun Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar was the Senate president for about a year before he had to step down from the post to become the Sarawak governor (TYT).

“The post was filled by Mutang but his recent death means three years or one term as Senate president has yet to be completed (by a Sarawak representative),” he told reporters after attending a pre-Gawai Dayak ceremony at Rumah Panjang Steward Saba yesterday as reported by FMT.

Nanta, who is also the federal Works Minister and Kapit MP, said that, nevertheless, he would leave the subject matter to Prime Minister Dato Seri Anwar Ibrahim and Yang di-Pertuan Agong Sultan Ibrahim.

Mutang, who was appointed as the 20th Dewan Negara president on Feb 19, died at the National Heart Institute in Kuala Lumpur on May 10. — DayakDaily
