GPS promises to end water supply woes in rural areas by year-end

GEDONG, Mar 10: The state government is expediting the rural water supply projects in the Gedong constituency, which is likely to be completed by year-end.

Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg affirmed that the state government is working round the clock to ensure that those projects are being implemented on schedule as they are people-centric projects.

ā€œWe are busy developing our water supply projects and it is being implemented smoothly.

ā€œI was briefed (on the progress) and perhaps by the end of this year, water supply projects in many places will be completed.

ā€œThose projects will benefit the community (in Gedong) here,ā€ he said prior to the launching of the Jiwa Murni programme at Gedong community hall here today.

On the Jiwa Murni programme, Abang Johari revealed that dilapidated houses and bridges in Kampung Gedong will be repaired and mosques in the village will also be repainted.

As for other development projects in Sarawak, Abang Johari said other rural towns such as Sebuyau, Sadong Jaya and Asajaya will also enjoy development once the infrastructure project is completed.

On another note, Abang Johari who is also Finance and Economic Planning Minister said the Sarawak government is finalising the post-Covid-19 Economic Recovery Plan.

The post-Covid-19 Economic Recovery Plan will consist of a new direction to steer the state economy towards a high-income state by 2030.

Hence, Abang Johari is confident that the state economy will grow through more revenue while more jobs will be created for Sarawakians.

He also believed that the tourism sector in Sarawak will be rejuvenated once the Covid-19 pandemic subsides.
