Flood-preventing culvert project in Miri to be completed by May 31

MIRI, 10 March: The installation of a 1500mm diameter culvert to prevent flash flood at Saberkas Roundabout is in progress and expected for completion on May 31 this year.

The project commenced on February 23, 2021.

This was disclosed by Minister of Transport Sarawak Datuk Lee Kim Shin on Wednesday afternoon after visited Pujut Roundabout.


Lee was accompanied by divisional engineer Public Works Department (PWD) Chong Chi Fam.

Once completed, the culvert help mitigating flash flood in the area.

“Besides installing the culvert, the contractor also upgrading the roadside drain to 1000 mm of 220-meter length from the existing 600mm,” he opined.

The project cost at about RM1.4 million is borne by the federal government.

During the period of the construction, Lee has also advised road users to exercise extra care while passing by the area.- DayakDaily
