GPS’ Nanta to face PKR, PBDS candidates in Kapit

KAPIT, Nov 5: The P215 Kapit parliamentary constituency will see a three-corner fight between three political parties.

Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi (GPS-PBB) will contest against Khusyairy Pangkas @ Pangkas Unggang from Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PH-PKR) and Robert Saweng from PBDS in the 15th General Election (GE15).

All the candidates arrived early at Kapit District Office, with Nanta being the first at 7.20am. He was accompanied by some 300-strong GPS contingent.

Khusyairy and Robert arrived at 8.05am and 8.30am, respectively, with a handful of supporters.

Pelagus assemblyman Wilson Nyabong Ijang acted as the proposer for Nanta, with Bukit Goram assemblyman Jefferson Jamit Unyat as the seconder.

PKR brought Tugang Tanggok and Archelous Tugang as the respective proposer and seconder for Khusyairy.

As for Robert, he had Bensin Benet and Donny Lek as his respective proposer and seconder.

According to returning officer Cerisologo Sabut, Nanta filed his nomination papers at 9.03am, followed by Khusyairy at 9.11am. Robert submitted his four minutes later at 9.15am.

After thorough checking and verifying, Cerisologo said he was satisfied with all three candidates’ nomination papers.

At 10.28am, he officially declared Nanta, Khusyairy, and Robert as the candidates for the Kapit constituency.

In 2018, Nanta obtained 14,302 votes to defeat DAP’s Paren Nyawi, who polled 3,823 votes, by a 10,479-vote majority. — DayakDaily
