KUCHING, Nov 5: Dato Sri Nancy Shukri (GPS-PBB) has to defeat Mohamad Zen Peli (PH-Amanah) and Independent candidate Affendi Jeman in a three-corner fight, before she can fill the shoes left by incumbent Dato Sri Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar in P193 Santubong.

The three candidates’ names were officially announced by returning officer Sofhi Jebal at 11.03am at the Dewan Sri Melati, Institut Kemahiran Mara (IKM) nomination centre today.

Nancy was the first to arrive at the nomination centre to submit her nomination documents as early as 8am after a 500m-long parade with her supporters from Maktab Rendah Sains Mara (MRSM) Kuching.

Also joining the parade were Wan Junaidi, Tanjung Datu assemblyman Azizul Annuar Adenan, Pantai Damai assemblyman Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Junaidi, Demak Laut assemblyman Dr Hazland Abang Hipni and former Tanjung Datu assemblywoman Datuk Patinggi Puan Sri Jamilah Anu.

Meanwhile, Zen arrived at 9.11am while Affendi arrived four minutes later to submit their nomination documents.

Although Santubong is Nancy’s hometown, she told the press that it is not easy to replace Wan Junaidi, who has contributed a lot throughout the latter’s time as MP.

“His (Wan Junaidi’s) shoes are too big for me to fill but I will try my best to serve the local community including his supporters.

“I hope the support that was given to him, would be given to me as well,” she said.

Nancy was previously the Batang Sadong MP for three terms since 2008 until 2022, before she switched to contest in Santubong this time.

This followed Wan Junaidi’s decision to not seek reelection and his intention to retire from politics. — DayakDaily
