KUCHING, June 24: A Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) MP believes that the Sarawak ruling coalition will not support the no-confidence motion against Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin should it be tabled in Parliament.
Santubong MP Datuk Seri Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar, who is a supreme council member of Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB), the backbone party of GPS, was very confident that GPS will not rock the boat as its priority is for Sarawak’s interest.
“The GPS party leaders have their feet planted firmly on the ground. The agenda for Sarawak is still the most important agenda on their list.
“There is no change so far on our stand to firmly support the Perikatan government under (Prime Minister) Tan Sri Muhyiddin (Yassin),” said Wan Junaidi in a press statement which expounded on the complexity of the procedures in amending existing laws and orders necessary for Parliament to be called at this time, where strict standard operating procedures (SOPs) are in place to fight Covid-19.
He said for the time being, there has yet to be any instruction from GPS chairman cum Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg. As such, he assumed an unchanged stand from the coalition.
“So far the Chief Minister has not contacted us, as he usually does, if he wants to discuss something new,” said Wan Junaidi.
Yesterday, Barisan Nasional (BN) and Umno MPs had expressed their stand of not supporting a no-confidence motion against Muhyiddin if it were to be tabled when Parliament reconvenes.
In a joint-statement, these 41 MPs agreed that Parliament should reconvene according the its Standing Orders or “any other required amendments”.
To them, the Parliament sitting should focus on the issues of the people in face of unprecedented economic disaster brought about by Covid-19. — DayakDaily
