KUCHING, April 2: Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) MPs have recorded an average of 53.2 per cent attendance in the Dewan Rakyat sitting from July 26, 2021 until March 24, 2022.
It ranked sixth among the 11 political parties or coalition in terms of average Dewan Rakyat attendance, with Muda topping the list at 70 per cent, followed by Pejuang (64.5 per cent), Pakatan Harapan (63.1 per cent), Parti Bangsa Malaysia (62.5 per cent) and Independent MPs (59.5 per cent).
According to a news portal, the data was supplied by civil society group MyMP, which tracked attendance by analysing the Dewan Rakyat Hansard for the past five sittings since July 26.
Parti Bangsa Malaysia (PBM) president Larry Sng confirmed that PBM MPs regularly attend Parliament.
“The only time when I was absent from Parliament was when I joined an official trip with a Minister overseas and during my quarantine after contracting Covid-19,” he said in a Facebook post last night.
Sng also commented that it is expected that government ministers will not be in Parliament for some period, due to ministerial duties outside of Parliament.
Therefore, he said the average attendance of GPS, Barisan Nasional and Perikatan Nasional MPs will likely be lower, even if their backbenchers were regularly present.
“As a comparison between Sarawakian MPs, out of the total 71 days of Parliament sitting, I was present for 62 days,” he added.
He also mentioned the attendance record of some notable Sarawakian MPs namely Yusuf Abdul Wahab (PBB) with 68 days, Chong Chieng Jen (DAP) – 55 days, Datuk Wilson Ugak Kumbong (PRS) – 54 days, Dato Sri Richard Riot Jaem (SUPP) – 51 days, Baru Bian (PSB) – 43 days, Dato Seri Tiong King Sing (PDP) – 31 days, and Michael Teo (PKR) – 13 days. — DayakDaily
