KUCHING, Jan 9: The launching of Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS)’s logo featuring the magnificent hornbill and the coalition new song today created a new chapter for Sarawak, politically.

Minister of Local Government and Housing Datuk Dr Sim Kui Hian highlighted that today is a historical day for Sarawak because it marked the departure of the old political era.

“After 55 years, we are finally a coalition of Sarawakians only, and this is just the beginning,” he told reporters when met at the launching ceremony held at Parti Persaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) headquarters here.

“We finally have freedom from Putrajaya, and we are on our own now,” he said, reiterating that only Sarawakian could and should determine their own destiny and how to share the state’s wealth.

Dr Sim, who is also Sarawak United Peoples’ Party (SUPP) president, added that a series of activities would follow after the launching event, including a convoy of vehicles as well as roadshows to promote the new emblem.

He, however, refused to comment when pressed about the status of United Sarawak Party (PSB), or formerly United People’s Party (UPP), in the context of GPS. — DayakDaily
