SIBU, Nov 6: Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) candidate for Lanang, Wong Ching Yong, has promised to fight for RM1 billion in development funds for the constituency if elected as its MP in the coming 15th General Election (GE15).
“Give me five years, and I will fight for RM1 billion,” said Wong at a press conference today.
He also chided incumbent Alice Lau of the Democratic Action Party (DAP) for only bringing in RM2 million during her two terms as Lanang MP.
“This is too little. Give me five years, and I will fight for RM1 billion. I will disclose in stages during the campaign period the purpose of the fund,” he said.
At the same time, Bukit Assek assemblyman Joseph Chieng urged Lanang constituents to vote Lau out.
“As an MP, if you can only get RM2 million in 10 years, it is totally unacceptable — especially when you were in the government for 22 months. I have been an assemblyman for less than a year, and I got far more than her,” said Chieng.
Meanwhile, Wong also regretted that Lau, when she was elected in the 2013 election, failed to do a follow-up on the proposed SMK Dudong and SK Dudong projects which were approved for implementation in the 10th Malaysia Plan (10MP) but had failed to take off.
He stressed that the new MP needs to ensure that the schools will be constructed next year as they have been approved under Budget 2023.
The Lanang parliamentary seat will see a four-cornered fight, with Wong and Lau also facing off against Priscilla Lau of Parti Bumi Kenyalang (PBK) and Independent Datuk Wong Tiing Kiong. — DayakDaily
