GPS’ Lanang candidate slams incumbent Alice Lau over ‘misleading statements’ of misusing SRDC funds

SIBU, Nov 12: Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) candidate for P211 Lanang Wong Ching Yong has lashed out at the seat’s incumbent Alice Lau for accusing him of misusing Sibu Rural District Council (SRDC) funds for personal gain.

“I want to refute Lau’s misleading statement. The council fund comes from the government and it is used for development purposes in several areas of the State constituencies such as Dudong, Bawang Assan, Bukit Assek and Nangka,” said Wong during a press conference today.

Wong said he does not draw a salary but only an allowance as the deputy chairman of SRDC.

“I have been donating my allowance to SUPP Dudong Office for its operational purposes,” he said.

Wong is the branch chairman of SUPP Dudong.

“I respect that Lau will not accept my invitation to donate her entire MP’s salary to the five Chinese private schools if she manages to retain the Lanang seat as this is a matter of sincerity.

“I support Chinese private schools because all of my children were previously studying there.

“That is what I want to contribute because I am aware of the importance and service of this school for the next generation,” he added.

Additionally, he said he will be a full-time representative if he is elected in the 15th General Election (GE15).

According to him, if elected later he will live in Sibu full-time and will open the Lanang Parliamentary Service Center to empower his services.

“Lau claimed that I will serve ‘part-time’ only after I said I want to donate my monthly MP’s salary to five schools yesterday.

“I live in Sibu for 360 days 24 hours a day. I am not like her, who lives in Peninsular Malaysia,” he said. — DayakDaily
