GPS fresh face Ibrahim Baki retains Satok with 6,033-vote majority

KUCHING, Dec 18: Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) candidate Datuk Ibrahim Baki wins N8 Satok with a 6,033-vote majority, seeing off two challengers from Parti Bumi Kenyalang (PBK) and Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR).

The 62-year-old businessman retained the seat traditionally contested by Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) after garnering 6,991 votes.


Meanwhile, Datuk Dr Nor Irwan Ahmat Nor of PKR and Awang Badele Awang Ali of PBK lose their deposits after only winning 958 and 415 votes respectively.

This is the first time that Ibrahim, who is also the Satok Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) deputy chairman contested in the State polls.

The Satok seat was previously held by GPS chairman Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg for nine terms since 1981.

Abang Johari decided to contest in N26 Gedong in this election to replace GPS comrade Datuk Mohd Naroden Majais who decided not to defend his seat.

For the record, Abang Johari has been declared the victor for Gedong after garnering a 3,607-vote majority.

He polled 4,310 votes, beating Mohamad Sofian Fariz Sharbini of Parti Sarawak Bersatu (PSB) with 703 votes, Tomson Ango of PBK with 157 votes and Kamal Bujang of Parti Amanah Negara (Amanah) with 94 votes. — DayakDaily
