GPS candidacy surprises : Salang to contest in Julau, Nancy for Santubong, Lo for Stampin

KUCHING, Nov 3: Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) chairman Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg has announced 13 new faces with surprises such as Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS) president Datuk Joseph Salang Gandum joining the fray in Julau and Dato Sri Nancy Shukri replacing Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) strongman Datuk Seri Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar in Santubong.

Other surprise moves include the fielding of Batu Kitang assemblyman Lo Khere Chiang in Stampin and Repok assemblyman Dato Sri Huang Tiong Sri in Sarikei while Sarawak United Peoples’ Party (SUPP) Bandar Kuching youth Eric Tay will carry the party’s banner in Bandar Kuching.

As for Batang Lupar, Dato Sri Rohani Abdul Karim will be replaced by Mohd Shafizah while PRS has sent Edwin Banta to reclaim the seat of Selangau. And as expected incumbent Betong Datuk Robert Lawson Chuat is to be taken over by a new face Dr Richard Rapu.

Puncak Borneo incumbent Datuk Willie Mongin, who has been accepted into Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB), will be defending the seat for the second term but this time, as GPS man.

The GPS Team for GE15 was unveiled today following the handover of writs to all 31 candidates at the PBB Headquarters in Jalan Bako here today.
