KUCHING, Oct 7: The government has set aside RM209 million in the form of subsidies for air transport to benefit rural residents in Sarawak and Sabah, says Finance Minister Datuk Seri Tengku Zafrul Abdul Aziz.

He said facilities in seven Sarawak and Sabah airports would also be improved by building wheelchair ramps.

This will benefit 2,300 wheelchair-bound communities who use MASWings services, he added.

When tabling the Budget 2023 in Dewan Rakyat today, Tengku Zafrul also said that RM180 million would be allocated for city bus services in Kuching, Kota Kinabalu and Melaka.

“Stop-and-go bus services are important to city dwellers who use public transport to get to work.

“For next year, RM180 million will be provided to improve public bus access to citizens in Melaka, Kota Kinabalu and Kuching.

“The government will also replace 18 one-stop buses operated by MARA for the benefit of Kedah residents,” he said. — DayakDaily
