In a Sarawak Public Communications Unit (Ukas), Meradong assemblyman Datuk Ding Kuong Hiing said JKM should expedite their assistance to these fire victims as they require food and daily basic necessities.

He said this after he was briefed on the tragic fire incident that gutted the longhouse early yesterday morning by the village head, Tuai Rumah Dangat.

“The Fire and Rescue Department (firefighters) from Bintangor and Sarikei, led by the Bintangor Fire Chief Nicholas Belulin, work tirelessly to distinguish the fire.

“Their fast action managed to save 16 houses from further destruction and damage,” he said.

Ding hoped the victims could persevere through their loss and suffering in due time.

Meanwhile, Sarikei Parliamentary Service Centre distributed food baskets to the fire victims.
