KUCHING, Feb 24: The government has announced a maximum price cap of RM599 for one-way economy class flight tickets purchased three days before Hari Raya from the Peninsula to Sarawak, Sabah, and Labuan.

Transport Minister Anthony Loke stated that this initiative aims to assist individuals traveling back to their hometowns for Hari Raya in April, as reported by Bernama.

He said his ministry has a policy for all festivals, be it Chinese New Year, Aidilfitri, Gawai, Keamatan, or Christmas, and three days before these celebration, the government will set the maximum price (of flight tickets).

“However, in the peninsula, where alternative mode of transportation like buses and trains are available, no maximum price is set.

“Those who buy (airline tickets) early may get a cheaper price, but in the event of ticket shortages, price may surge, any increase exceeding RM599 will be covered by government subsidies within the three-day period,” he was quoted by Bernama as saying.

Loke added that his ministry would also seek views of all relevant parties such as the Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Religious Affairs) to determine the exact date of Hari Raya before implementing the maximum ticket price. — DayakDaily
