KUCHING, June 29: A ‘gotong-royong’ (work party) at a longhouse in Nanga Belungai, Sungai Kakus in Tatau has created a new community cluster with 13 Covid-19 cases confirmed so far.

The Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) in a statement today said the Nanga Belungai Cluster stemmed from social movement and close contact among the longhouse residents during the ‘gotong-royong’ conducted on June 13.

“A total of 51 individuals have been screened whereby 13 people tested positive for Covid-19 including the index case and 38 are awaiting test results,” the committee said.

All positive cases from the cluster were referred and admitted to Bintulu Hospital and the Bintulu Low-Risk Treatment Centre (PKRC) for isolation and further treatment.
