GOF foils attempt to smuggle RM25,940 in goods via Lundu

SIBU, Jan 13: The 10th Battalion General Operation Force has foiled an attempt to smuggle in RM25,940 worth of goods through ‘jalan tikus’ (illicit trail) in Lundu yesterday.

Commanding Officer of the Battalion, Supt Mohammad Hafiz Kadir said acting on information received, a task force from the Battalion at about 11am conducted an operation at a jungle pathway which is believed to have been used by smugglers as an illegal route to Lundu from Indonesia.

“The team stopped a lorry which was carrying a number of items,” he said.

The items which were later seized include 12kg of dragon fruit worth RM1,440, 80kg of dried shrimp (RM4,000), 180kg of petai (RM4,500), 100kg of fish buoy (RM5,000), and 500kg of snails (RM11,000).

The lorry estimated to be worth RM85,000 was also seized.

“We have also arrested the driver of the lorry and handed him over to Lundu police for further investigation,” he said.

Mohammad Hafiz said the case is being investigated under the Customs Act 1957. — DayakDaily
