KUCHING, Feb 20: The General Operations Force (GOF) Sarawak has successfully dismantled an illegal logging operation in Saratok, seizing assets worth over RM3.2 million during Op Taring Libas yesterday (Feb 19).
In a TVS news report, Sarawak Brigade Commander SAC Dr Che Ghazali Che Awang stated that during the 9.30am operation, GOF personnel raided a location in Saratok suspected of being used for illegal logging activities.
“Three local men, aged between 36 and 56, were arrested, and further inspection led to the discovery of 85 logs of various species at the site.
“Additionally, six vehicles of various types were confiscated, bringing the total value of the seized items to RM3,223,000,” he said in a statement today.
The arrests and confiscated items have been handed over to the Sri Aman Forest Department for further investigation under the Sarawak Forest Ordinance 2015.
Meanwhile, another raid under Op Taring Bravo 3 was conducted at two premises in Padawan and Kota Samarahan, suspected of storing and importing livestock products without valid permits.
Authorities arrested two men and three women, all locals aged between 23 and 55, after inspections uncovered 36,178 kilogrammes of frozen chicken and beef at the premises.
“Also seized were two containers and three vehicles of various types, with an estimated total market value of RM1,602,500,” Che Ghazali added.
The case has been handed over to the Department of Veterinary Sarawak (DVS) for further investigation under Section 9 (1)(3) of the Veterinary Public Health Ordinance 1999. — DayakDaily
