MIRI, Nov 20: The organiser for this year’s Miri Christmas parade might not proceed with the event if weather conditions are unfavorable.

Mayor Adam Yii dislosed this at a press conference today.

“This year would be the 12th year the event is being organised and we expect a massive crowd of 40,000,” he said.

A total of 15 churches will be taking part in the event scheduled for December 7, in collaboration with the Miri City Council (MCC).

“Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg will attend and grace the event,” said Yii.

He described Abang Johari’s decision to attend as an act which reflects Sarawak’s harmony as Abang Johari is not a Christian.

Similar to previous years, the 5km parade will kick off from Jalan Kipas around 5pm.

On another note, Yii expressed delight and pride with the selection of Miri City as the state’s ‘smart city’ pilot project which was announced recently by the Chief Minister.

“We are already in discussion with the Sarawak Multimedia Authority (SMA) on the initiatives under the project,” he said.

Abang Johari recently announced that Miri Smart City would be launched in nine months once the system is ready. — DayakDaily
