BINTULU, June 29: There are very few cases of severe adverse reactions associated with Covid-19 vaccines reported among recipients in Sarawak in which the Health Department will investigate to ascertain the actual causes.
Emphasising this, Bintulu MP Dato Sri Tiong King Sing took a swipe at rumours and inaccurate information which is spreading fast like wild fire on social media as it could fuel vaccine hesitancy and create unnecessary panic among Sarawakians.
“It is a fact that there are a few cases of serious side effects reported among recipients of the vaccines (in Sarawak).
“(They involve) Only a few sporadic cases (which) are being investigated by the Health Department in order to analyse and inform the public of the actual causes,” he said in a statement posted on his Facebook today.
Brushing aside the rumours and false information about the safety, efficacy and side effects of vaccines on social media, he advised everyone over the age of 18 to register for vaccination so that Sarawak and Malaysia as a whole can achieve herd immunity as soon as possible.
“This is part of the country’s recovery plan. By completing vaccination for everyone, there will be a strong protective cover for us all so that we can go back to our normal lives and bring the economy back on track,” he said.
Tiong, who is also Prime Minister’s Special Envoy to China, also advised vaccine recipients to report truthfully their medical conditions or ailments to the medical staff before being vaccinated.
“Otherwise, the staff would not be able to give correct advice based on their professional judgement,” he said.
On the vaccination drive in Bintulu, Tiong pointed out that mobile vaccination has been accelerated to cover the rural communities.
“We must ensure that groups who cannot travel long distances are not left behind. We hope that with more vaccine supplies coming in, the vaccination drive can be expedited and completed in the shortest time possible,” he added.— DayakDaily
