KUCHING, Aug 10: International superstar DJs, Alan Walker from the United Kingdom and DJ Soda from South Korea, will be headlining the first-ever Borneo Music Festival Live 2022 from Sept 9 to 10 at the Sarawak Cultural Village (SCV) here.
Minister of Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah believes this festival will be another success as more than 2,000 tickets have been sold in just two weeks since ticket sales were opened online on July 6.
“I believe a large part of the crowd will consist of people from outside Sarawak for the time, based on most of the tickets sold online.
“Knowing how Sarawakians are, they like to do things last minute, just like during the Rainforest World Music Festival (RWMF) and Borneo Jazz Festival (BHF) where we saw ticket sales shot up on the event day itself,” he told a press conference on the latest music festival at a hotel here today.
Deputy Minister for Tourism Datuk Sebastian Ting, Deputy Minister for Creative Industry and Performing Arts Datuk Snowdan Lawan, Sarawak Tourism Board chief executive officer Sharzede Datuk Salleh Askor and Borneo Music Festival Live 2022 organising chairperson Tracy Pui were also present.
The Borneo Music Festival Live 2022 was originally scheduled for 2020 but it was cancelled after the pandemic hit.
With a line-up of well-known international artistes, Abdul Karim said this large-scale live music event will strengthen Sarawak’s position as a prime and ideal destination for music tourism in Malaysia and the region.
“Music events are always a favourite among people. There are many more such events to come including the Kuching Waterfront Jazz and Miri Country Music Festival.
“The support for these music events is also part of my Ministry’s unremitting efforts to promote Sarawak’s diverse tourism offerings in culture, adventure, nature, food and festivals,” he added.
Apart from Alan Walker and DJ Soda, the Borneo Music Festival Live 2022 will also see DJ Alexis Grace, DJ Ice Cream, DJ Chaca, DJ MYVAX, DJ Paul and MC Vibe from Malaysia, Nicole Chen from Singapore, DJ X Factor from the Philippines, DJ Venom C and Moski Love from Indonesia, as well as a stellar line-up of Malaysian singers including Rynn Lim, Thomas Jack and Priscilla Abby together with local music band At Adau, Tuku’Kame’ and Buloh Berkocak.
Other than music performances, 30 to 40 food stalls will also be set up at the music festival for festival-goers to get a taste of Sarawak and enjoy the cultural performances prepared by SCV.
Organised by Firmament Event Studio, the festival aims to promote the diversity of Sarawak offerings alongside eco-tourism, food, music, art, culture and so on.
