George Tang murder: Court fixed Sept 26 for further mention

MIRI, Aug 29: A new court date has been fixed for a local man charged with the murder of 60-year-old businessman George Tang Kee Luang.

Registrar of Subordinate Courts Nuur Hafiza Yatim fixed Sept 26 for the case further mention.

The accused, 27-year-old Zulfaldy Shafieq Ali, who is the prime suspect in the case, was produced at the Magistrate Court here, today, at 9am.

He was not represented, while Inspector Mohd Khairi Mohd Noor prosecuted.

No plea was taken from the accused.

Zulfaldy was charged under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder, which provides the death penalty upon conviction.

According to the charge sheet, Zulfaldy was accused of murdering Tang on June 29, between 2.25pm and 2.54pm, at a road nearby the Maritime Training Centre (SMTC) in Kuala Batu 1, Kuala Baram.

The victim’s lower half body was found on July 2, floating in Sungai Niah by two fishermen hunting for crabs around 1.30pm.

Tang had been reported missing by his family on June 29. — DayakDaily
