KUCHING, Mar 7: The Gelong Cluster which stemmed from a funeral service in Kapit reported the most number of new cases today among the current active clusters in Sarawak.
According to a press statement from the State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC), there was an increase of 19 cases, all of which were asymptomatic.
The Gelong Cluster in Kapit was declared in the community of Taman Sri Gelong at Jalan Selirik on Feb 16 after a 47-year-old man tested positive for Covid-19. He had attended the funeral service of his late father, together with close family members.
Following active contact tracing and case detection conducted by the State Health Department, more positive Covid-19 cases were identified.
As of today, detected infections linked to the cluster has increased to 208.
A total of 255 individuals have been swabbed for Covid-19 with 47 individuals testing negative and no test results pending.
Meanwhile, there are currently 26 active Covid-19 clusters in Sarawak.
Eight clusters today reported new cases, including two new Covid-19 clusters in Sibu.
The new clusters have been named the Kiba Cluster and Jalan Awang Cluster, reporting 32 new cases and 41 new cases respectively.
Other active clusters reporting new cases today are Jalan Muhibbah Cluster in Betong with eight cases, Emperoh Jambu Cluster in Kuching with seven, Jalan Ho Pin Cluster in Samarahan with two, Bukit Tunggal Cluster in Julau with two and Buloh Cluster in Selangau with one.
Other active Covid-19 clusters in Sarawak did not report new cases today. They are the Sungai Bakong Cluster in Meradong, Kampung Sungai Maong Cluster (Kuching), Jalan Green Cluster (Kuching), Kejatau Cluster (Sri Aman), Jan Yong Cluster (Kapit), Geronggang Cluster (Sibu), Mas Merah Cluster (Sibu), Univista Cluster (Samarahan), Kidurong Dua Cluster (Bintulu), Nanga Lijan Cluster (Julau), Seruas Cluster (Beluru), Sebangkoi (Sri Aman), Jun Heng Cluster (Bintulu), Bintang Daily Cluster (Meradong), Jalan Pengiran Cluster (Matu), Tabong Cluster (Bau), Rakut Cluster (Miri) and Pasai Cluster (Sibu). — DayakDaily
