SIBU, Oct 10: Sarawak United Peoples’ Party’s (SUPP) potential candidates for the Lanang and Sibu parliamentary seats for the 15th General Election (GE15) have been identified, and the chosen candidates will be revealed by Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg soon.
This was said by Deputy Minister for Public Health and Housing Michael Tiang, who noted that the potential candidates have already been on the ground to prepare for GE15.
“When the time comes, the Premier of Sarawak will announce the candidates,” said Tiang after officiating at the Sibu Division World Mental Health Day 2022 cum National Sports Day today.
The candidate for Sibu will be chosen from the list recommended by the Bawang Assan, Pelawan, and Nangka branches.
For the Lanang seat, the candidate will be from the Dudong or Bukit Assek branches.
Tiang, also Pelawan assemblyman, is confident that Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) will do well in the election based on its excellent track record.
“We have been ready all this time. We are just waiting for the PM to announce the dissolution of Parliament. We are confident this time with our achievement and track record,” said Tiang.
GPS, he said, needs to win big to have a bigger and louder voice in Parliament while fighting for the State’s rights.
Touching on the event, he said it was an excellent way to promote the people’s mental and physical well-being.
“During the Covid-19 pandemic, mental health has become a serious social issue in society, so this event lets the people know how to seek help and maintain their health,” he said.
As mental illness is “not the end of the road”, he said the public could seek professional advice and services from the Sibu Hospital’s Psychiatric Department. — DayakDaily
