KUCHING, Oct 15: The Sarawak government will look into the feasibility of assisting Sarawakian youth studying in the Peninsula to return to vote in the upcoming 15th General Election (GE15).
Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg said he would consider the request from Sarawakian students in the Peninsular and discuss the matter with Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) leaders.
“I cannot give a specific answer (now). But, let us discuss among the (GPS) leaders first how we can assist our Sarawakian children returning to Sarawak to vote,” he said during a townhall session at the Lan Berambeh Anak Sarawak 2022 programme held in Kuala Lumpur today.
Abang Johari, who is GPS president, further said that the votes from the Sarawakian youth are important to ensure that the Sarawak’s voice is heard loud and clear by Putrajaya.
“What’s important for us (GPS) is that we are now in the midst of negotiation on Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63). So if GPS has a big voice, of course, Putrajaya will listen to us.
“So (Putrajaya), don’t play around because we have the big support of the people behind us. You have to listen to us in our negotiation on MA63,” he added. — DayakDaily
