SIBU, Sept 5: Parti Sarawak Bersatu (PSB) president Dato Sri Wong Soon Koh says he will contest in Sibu for the upcoming 15th General Election (GE15).

Wong said at a press conference after chairing the PSB supreme council’s first committee meeting today, that it was the wish of the party that he be the party’s candidate for the seat.

“If the party wants me (to contest), I will have to just go for it because personally as a person it is not important but as the party (decision) it is important.

“As a party president I might have to spearhead the parliamentary election for the whole of Sarawak. I have no choice but to lead the PSB struggle to Parliament” he added.

The Bawang Assan assemblyman said even though he is advanced in age, he is the most qualified to stand for election in the seat due to his vast experience in politics.

“I might be quite elderly but I think I am most qualified to carry the voice of the Sibu people into Parliament and also for Sarawak.

“I have done a lot for Sibu in the past. I hope to be able to do more as a Member of Parliament if I get elected, and I hope I can help Sibu people more and definitely help the people of Sarawak more,” he said.

Meanwhile, Soon Koh’s candidacy also received unanimous support from the party’s senior council members including his deputy Dr Johnical Rayong Ngipa who is also Engkilili assemblyman.

“Dato Sri (Soon Koh) is our party’s confirmed candidate for the Sibu Parliament for the upcoming GE15,” said Rayong.
