GE14: Masing confident all six proposed candidates will be accepted

Masing addresses participants at the PRS Youth Argo Empowerment programme closing ceremony in Santubong.

SANTUBONG, April 15: Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS) president Tan Sri Dr James Jemut Masing is confident that Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak will accept the party’s list of candidates for the 14th General Election (GE14).

Speaking to reporters after closing the PRS Youth Argo Empowerment programme today, Masing said: “The list of the party’s six candidates has been submitted to Najib and I am confident he will accept it as what he did in GE12 and GE13. This is because we’ve successfully delivered all our seats to Barisan Nasional (BN) as promised and this time, I promise to deliver all six seats again.”

Masing, who is also Deputy Chief Minister said that since PRS is the first Dayak party in Sarawak to submit the name of a woman candidate, he is confident Najib will walk the talk by bringing women into the hierarchy of the administration.

“We have a woman candidate. We are walking the talk by putting a woman as one of our candidates to empower women in the state,” he said.

There will be two new faces from PRS this time round, and both are in their 50’s; one is a lawyer by profession while the other is a public prosecutor.

“All the six potential candidates have been informed by the party that they will be our candidates. Now we are just waiting for the endorsement by Najib and Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg.

Masing also said that PRS is ready with all its election machinery and preparations.

PRS women’s wing has been moving around on the ground while the youth wing is also on standby.

“From the event today we can say that the youth and women’s wings are well prepared for the fight. When the announcement is made, we are going straight to war,” he added. — DayakDaily
