KUCHING, April 9: Sarawak Democratic Action Party (DAP) will use its own “rocket” logo while Parti Amanah Negara (Amanah) Sarawak will use Parti Keadilan Rakyat’s (PKR’s) logo for the 14th General Election (GE14).
State DAP chairman Chong Chieng Jen said the decision for DAP Sarawak was made after taking into consideration the difference in situations between Sarawak and Peninsular Malaysia.
Chong, who is also the state Pakatan Harapan (PH) chairman said at a press conference today DAP Sarawak could decide independently on the use of election symbol, without relying on the central party leadership, since it had autonomy in Sarawak.
DAP Sarawak will contest in nine seats, namely Mas Gading, Serian, Stampin, Bandar Kuching, Sibu, Lanang, Sarikei, Bintulu and Kapit.
Amanah Sarawak chairman Fidzuan Zaidi said all of the party’s candidates in the state will be using the PKR logo.
“Rural constituencies are more familiar with the the PKR logo and we want to maximize our chances in winning this GE14 in Sarawak,” Fidzuan said when asked why.
He also said that Amanah Sarawak will contest in six seats which are Santubong, Samarahan, Batang Sadong, Batang Lupar, Igan and Tanjong Manis.
Asked on the names of candidates, Chong said the names would be revealed after the announcement of nomination and polling dates by the Election Commission (EC).
